Meeting Captain Mickey on the Disney Fantasy!

So, you’re sailing on a Disney Cruise ship? Get excited!! Disney Cruise Line brings a sprinkle of that Disney Magic to the sea, without the hard-core planning needed on a Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacation. You’ll find some of your favorite Disney and Marvel characters on board, fireworks at sea on Caribbean and Bahamian cruises, movies playing in the theaters all day long, kids clubs, and the ultimate service that only Disney Cruise Line can bring!

What I love about Disney Cruise Line the most is that so much is included, including soft drinks. You’ll get free soft drinks at all of your meals, and you can get free soft drinks 24/7 at the self-serve stations on the top deck! I also love that when you reserve port adventures through Disney Cruise Line, you don’t pay for them upfront. The cost of your Port Adventures will be charged to your stateroom, and you’ll pay it at the end of the cruise!

As of today, I’ve been on three Disney Cruises and as a travel agent, I specialize in booking amazing Disney Cruise Line vacations for my clients! Looking for a travel agent? Beach day on the British Virgin Islands!

When you check into a Disney Cruise, you will drop off your checked luggage at the port and you will find it a few hours later at your stateroom! Be sure to keep a carryon with you for all of your embarkation day needs. I suggest a book bag instead of a carryon suitcase for easier navigating of the ship. For our carryon bag, we used the Osprey Daylite Plus Commuter so we could use it on excursions as well. It was comfortable and it is water resistant!

Be sure to check Disney Cruise Line’s list of prohibited items and Alcohol Policy if planning on bringing alcohol on board. Also, check the Passports, Visas, and Citizenship Documents you may need for your cruise here!

Carryon in a back pack:

  • Luggage Tags - Disney will mail you luggage tags. Keep those with you and put them on your luggage before you drop them off to be loaded onto the ship! If you don’t get the luggage tags in time, no worries! They will have some for you at the ship.

  • Port Arrival Form - you will need this printed to scan upon check in. You will have access to this after check in!

  • Passports, Birth Certificates or other travel documents for everyone in your party - do NOT forget these.

  • Passport Wallet - keep your passport in good shape!

  • License/IDs - any other forms of identification you may want or need

  • Disneybands+ - if you plan on using Disneyband+ , have them on you at check in!

  • Cash - Keep some cash on you for tips - you may want to tip the porters who handle your checked luggage!

  • Disney Gift Cards and other forms of payment, just in case!

  • Ibuprofen and other medications - keep ALL medications on you!

  • Floss - I use these floss picks with an easy carrying case!

  • Sunglasses/Hats

  • Camera - We LOVE taking our Go Pro on cruises! Perfect for filming under water when we snorkel! Here is a link to the Go Pro Hero 10!

  • Camera/Go Pro Accessories. Here are my Go Pro must haves:

  • Portable Phone Charger - we really like to use Anker products, like this one!

  • Swimsuits - if you think anyone in your party may want to swim on embarkation day

  • Sun screen - make sure it’s reef-safe sunscreen!

  • Hand Sanitizer - not a MUST, but a must for me!

  • Chapstick

  • Entertainment (optional) - Earbuds, Nintendo Switch, playing cards, etc.

  • Baby items that may be needed on embarkation day - diapers, wipes, etc.

Renting Bicycles on Disney’s Castaway Cay is a really fun port adventure!

Any luggage NOT in your carryon will be part of the checked luggage and may not get to your room until late afternoon/evening. Be sure you won’t need anything you pack in checked luggage for most of the day. Here is everything else we packed:

Pack clothing that match the excursions you are doing. Remember, you can do laundry on the ship if you want to save space by packing less!

  • Shorts / athletic bottoms: We packed about 3 pairs of pants each and washed clothes once.

  • Shirts

  • PJs

  • Underwear

  • Bras - don’t forget sports bras for excursions and a nice bra if participating in formal night!

  • Socks

  • Hoodie or Jacket - It may get a little chilly on the ship, or even at night if you are traveling during the winter months!

  • Shoes:

    • Shoes that match your excursions - We wore Merrell Moab Speed 2 Mid GORE-Tex for our hiking excursions. Water resistant and super comfortable!

    • Crocs, Sandals, flip flops for ship- I am a crocs on cozy ship days girl!

    • Sneakers - I packed Keds for the ship days I didn’t want crocs

    • Shoes for formal nights - I wore my Keds, but if you are dressing fancier, you may want fancier dress shoes!

  • Clothes for Formal / Semi - Formal Nights - I just wore a cute Jumpsuit and Keds while my husband wore khaki pants, a polo, and Vans sneakers. You do not HAVE to participate in these nights, but it is a good excuse to dress up!

I ordered mac & cheese of the kids menu on the Disney Wonder!

Hygiene and other items:

  • Disney Pins - Pin traders and collectors, don’t forget to bring your pins on board!

  • Phone & Watch Chargers

  • Pop-up hamper - we bought a cheap one from Dollar Tree that could fold up and fit in our suitcase. Having this helps keep all the dirty clothes in one spot and makes it easy to carry to the laundry room!

  • Gain Flings - There are laundry rooms on board for an additional cost. Pack a few gain flings in a sandwich bag so you can do laundry and pack light!

  • Dryer sheets - keep those in a sandwich baggie near the gain flings!

  • Walmart Bags - we always bring a few Walmart bags in case we need to pack up any dirty/wet clothes. Never hurts to be prepared!

  • Fish Extender - Even if you aren’t signing up for an official gift exchange (this usually happens in a Facebook page for your cruise), bringing a Fish Extender to hang outside of your door is so fun! You never know if you’ll be “pixie dusted” by another cruise guest! Here is a cute option!

  • Fish extender gifts or pixie dust (optional) - if you sign up for a gift swap or want to bring pixie dust for other cruisers, don’t forget to pack those!

  • Door Magnets / Door Decor - There is something so fun about decorating your stateroom door with magnets! Browse Etsy for some fun ideas!

  • Swimsuits - if not packed in your carryon, or extras!

  • Luggage scale - if you are flying, airlines have weight restrictions you’ll want to make sure to follow! Here is a great option!

  • Water bottle / Reusable cups - Bring reusable cups to fill so you don’t have to use the tiny cups that are provided, and you can easily bring back to your room!

  • Aloe Vera - Here is our travel-friendly preferred brand.

  • Cash for Room Service Tips - 24-hour room service is free, but you will want to tip the cast member who delivers your food!

  • Phone / Watch Chargers

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Hairbrush

  • Makeup - if needed

  • Jewelry - if needed

  • Deodorant

  • Q-tips

  • Razor

  • Bag for excursions - may be your carryon bag we used this Osprey bag!

  • Autograph Book / Pen if you plan on character meet and greet!

  • Any other hygiene items you may need

  • Apps on your phone:

    • Whats App - may work on DCL without purchasing wifi!

    • Disney Cruise Line App - find the schedule on the app!

    • Downloaded movies/TV/Books on your phone for entertainment

  • Books/Kindle or other entertainment- I didn’t bring this, but many people do!

  • Any additional items needed for your babies or kids!
